Ecosystem Public Safety

Communications are central to the safety of the general population as well as to the police, fire and other first responders protecting society.

During the tragic events on 9/11 the first responders that had entered the Trade Center buildings lost communications with the ground command center when they reached a certain height. Their inability to communicate made it impossible for them to hear the directions to exit the building. This incident began a greater focus on how first responder networks operate in buildings.

Additionally, 80% of calls to 911 in the USA are made from inside buildings or homes. This has expanded focus to cellular coverage in buildings as well. Passive Repeaters and Active DAS technology are the preferred methods to boost the wireless signals to ensure the necessary coverage and capacity is available. Paradoxically, the low E glass being installed into modern buildings to help efficiently insulate them causes the reflection of RF signals away from a building causing poor reception inside.

Capacity has also become a major issue due to the proliferation of Video and Video Intelligence applications in Cities, Buildings and now on the vehicles and bodies of first responders. This capability is critical in providing both immediate situational awareness and post event analysis which helps solve crimes and save lives.
