Mobility is changing rapidly around the world. Cities are facing immense challenges to revamp critical transportation infrastructure to accommodate shifting use cases. Automation and Connectivity are playing an increased role in enabling deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems that will improve safety, travel times, and costs.
Autonomous cars, trucks, shuttles, taxis and other vehicles are in the early stages of testing and still are largely functioning at level 3 or lower. Many years of development are still required to enable any mass deployment of level 4 or 5 autonomy. Niche applications are starting to emerge such as Tu-Simple and Voyage.
Intel predicts that during today’s normal use (1.5 hours per day) an autonomous vehicle will generate 4 Terabytes of data. Connectivity is playing an essential role in enabling the next generation of Transportation.
